How to Extract Audio from a Video on iPhone
Updated · 2 min read
A song from a concert clip. A lecture you'd rather listen to on a walk. A voice message someone sent as a video. iOS can play a video's sound, but it can't save it as an audio file on its own. Here's how to pull the audio out of any video and save it as MP3 — or whatever format you need.
Which audio format should you choose?
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| MP3 | Plays everywhere — music, sharing, car stereos |
| M4A / AAC | Apple devices; better quality than MP3 at the same size |
| WAV | Editing — uncompressed, but very large |
| FLAC | Archiving — lossless and smaller than WAV |
| OGG | Games, web projects and some Android apps |
Not sure? Pick MP3.
How to extract audio from a video on iPhone
- Get the app. Download Video & Image Converter — free to try, works offline.
- Pick the video from Photos or the Files app — or several videos at once.
- Choose an audio format, such as MP3. If you like, set the bitrate (192 kbps or more for music, 64–128 kbps is plenty for speech), switch to mono for voice recordings, or change the sample rate.
- Convert and save. Save the audio to Files, or share it to Messages, Mail or any other app.
Recording of a talk or interview? Turn on noise reduction before converting — it removes fans, traffic and wind while keeping the voice natural. See how to remove background noise.
Have a file to convert right now? It takes a few taps — and nothing is uploaded.

The app works with files that are already on your device — it doesn't download anything from websites. Use it for videos you recorded yourself or have the right to use.
